We have six full-ride scholarships available for students. They typically open in January and running through a specified date in April. They are currently closed for the 2024 season.

We have fourteen classes for students and advisers to choose from. Campers will select one singular class to stay in the duration of the camp. All campers will be exposed to cross-topic learning through their projects and guest speakers. Check the course options here › 

We have the campers scheduled throughout their time with us. We have a mix of activities, classroom, in-the-field storytelling work, production time, field trips, large group activities, and free time. See the rough outline here ›

We have bus transportation from St. Louis and can arrange for Des Moines airport pick-up/drop-off as well. We want our campers to be taken care of and look to make things easy for parents/guardians too. You can see full details here ›

Parents/Guardians help determine if daily medications need to be administered by the camp director or if the student camper can manage. There is not a nurse designated to the camp, but local emergency care is close by.

For over-the-counter medications such as Advil, Tylenol, Mydol, etc., campers can and are encouraged to have those items on hand if needed. The camp director will have basic first-aid supplies available.

Once on campus students have all food, snacks and lodging provided. The only additional money they may want to spend would be on their own for late-night food orders or items from the University bookstore. The store is typically open just one time on the final day showcase.

No. To keep our campers safe, walking to nearby convenience stores, coffee shops or food establishments are not allowed. It is best for students to bring extra snacks and drinks for the dorms. This includes early morning runs or coffee runs down the street. We are responsible for each student and require them to be on campus for us to do our best at keeping each one of them safe while in our care. We know you can do it! I will respect the campus from the classroom and cafeteria to the dorms and outdoor spaces. I am a guest on campus. I will be cautious of walls, furniture, carpet, computers, windows/blinds, etc. and understand that those who purposely damage Drake University property will be charged for the expense of replacing those items.

I understand that the dorms will have two floors for student housing – one for boys and one for girls. Student campers can be only on their same-sex floor of which they identify. In short, no boys in girls rooms and no girls in boys rooms. We can hang out all together in the common spaces.

I understand that the assigned room and roommate are where I need to sleep and keep our things. No switching roommates without authorization to do so, and even then, changes will only be made if there is a serious concern to do so. This is for my safety. The camp directors and staff need to know where I am in case of illness, family need or emergency. They also need to know who has keys and access to my space. I understand I will be assigned a room and a key to that room. If I lose the key, I will be charged $50 by the University for a replacement key.

I understand that all campers will remain on campus from check-in to check-out. That means no off-campus trips to convenience stores, eating establishments or coffee shops, etc. If there is something that I can't have delivered to campus, I will make arrangements with the camp director and counselors to get things arranged. For my safety, all campers will remain on campus unless we are going somewhere as a group with our instructor.

I understand that campers should not be walking around campus on their own or even in a small group outside of designated and authorized spaces and times. This is for the safety of each camper. For example, no early morning runs off-campus are allowed. If running on-campus, the director should be made aware in order to arrange a running buddy or notify public safety of our plans. Again, I understand that Media Now does this all to keep campers safe.

I understand that once we are in for the night we are not allowed to don't wander around campus. Free time should be just in the common spaces in the dorm or in the yard outside the dorms in the designated area. Free time is between (approximately) 9:30 - 11 p.m. each night.

I understand that curfew and quiet hours are in play each night at 11 p.m. We'll be doing some things together each night, but after that we'll all head in. At 11 p.m., the halls should be quiet and I should be settled in for the night. The counselors will do a bed check. Campers can still be chatting in their room, but we'll be respectful of roommates and neighbors by keeping the noise down. If I’m wanting to cash out before the 11 p.m. curfew, I understand I can check in with my on-floor counselor.

I understand there are no visitors allowed while at camp.

I understand that if I’m suspected or found in possession of drugs, alcohol or illegal substances of any kind, on-campus security will be called and I will be sent home at my expense.

I understand that no firearms or weapons of any kind are allowed on campus.

I will treat all other students, counselors, directors and University staff with respect and kindness, just as I would like to be treated. I understand that racist or derogatory language or acts of any kind will not be tolerated.
